Frequently Asked Questions

About the Product

What is a menstrual cup?

A menstrual cup is a small, flexible cup made from 100% medical-grade silicone that you insert during your period to collect flow rather than absorb it. Unlike pads or tampons, it creates a gentle seal and can be worn for up to 12 hours without leaking.

Is the Tessa Cup safe to use?

Absolutely. The Tessa Cup is made from 100% platinum-cured medical-grade silicone — the same material used in medical implants. It is BPA-free, latex-free, hypoallergenic, and has passed cytotoxicity, irritation, and skin sensitization tests. It is completely safe for internal use.

How long does the Tessa Cup last?

With proper care, the Tessa Cup lasts up to 10 years. One purchase at ₹499 replaces thousands of rupees worth of disposable pads and tampons over a decade.

Does the Tessa Cup contain any harmful chemicals?

No. It contains zero BPA, zero latex, zero toxins, and zero bleaching agents. The silicone we use is the same grade approved for long-term medical use.

Sizing

How do I know which size to choose?

We offer three sizes. Small is ideal for teenagers and first-time users with light to medium flow. Medium suits most adults with a typical flow. Large is recommended for women above 25 with a heavy flow or those who have given birth. You can also take our size quiz on the product page — it takes under 30 seconds and tells you exactly which size fits your body.

What if I order the wrong size?

We offer size exchanges on unopened, sealed products. You will need to ship the product back to us at your own cost and cover the delivery charges for the replacement. Please contact us before sending anything back so we can confirm availability.

Using the Cup

Can a menstrual cup cause infections?

Menstrual cups do not cause infections when used and cleaned correctly. The Tessa Cup is made from 100% medical-grade silicone, a non-porous material that does not support bacterial growth. Always wash your hands before insertion and sterilise the cup between cycles.

Are menstrual cups better than pads?

Menstrual cups offer several advantages over pads. They can be worn for up to 12 hours, generate almost zero waste, save money over time, and allow greater freedom during sports, travel, and sleep. The best choice depends on personal preference, but many women switch to cups for comfort and sustainability.

How many hours can I wear a menstrual cup?

The Tessa Cup can be worn safely for up to 12 hours depending on your flow. Women with heavier periods may choose to empty it more frequently during the first few days of their cycle.

Can teenagers use menstrual cups?

Yes. The Tessa Small Cup is specifically designed for teenagers and first-time users. Age alone does not determine suitability — comfort and correct sizing are more important.

Can virgins use menstrual cups?

Yes. Virginity is a social and cultural concept, not a medical condition. Menstrual cups can be used safely regardless of sexual experience. The Tessa Small Cup is often the most comfortable option for beginners.

Does using a menstrual cup hurt?

A properly inserted menstrual cup should not hurt. Most first-time users experience a short learning period, but once inserted correctly, the cup should not be noticeable during daily activities.

Can a menstrual cup get stuck inside?

No. A menstrual cup cannot get lost inside the body because the cervix blocks access to the uterus. If removal feels difficult, relax your muscles, bear down gently, and pinch the base of the cup to release the seal.

How much money can a menstrual cup save?

A single Tessa Cup can last up to 10 years. Compared to purchasing disposable pads or tampons every month, many women save thousands of rupees over the lifetime of the cup.

Is it difficult to insert and remove?

Most women get comfortable within two to three cycles. We recommend the C-fold or punch-down technique for insertion. The flexible silicone makes it easy to fold and insert. For removal, relax your muscles, reach for the stem, pinch the base to release the seal, and gently pull it out. It gets easier every time.

Can I sleep with the Tessa Cup?

Yes. The Tessa Cup can be worn safely for up to 12 hours, which means you can sleep through the night without any interruptions or leaks.

Can I swim or exercise with it?

Yes. The Tessa Cup creates a gentle suction seal that holds firmly during swimming, yoga, running, and any physical activity. Water does not affect the seal at all.

Can I use the cup if I have never had sex?

Yes, the Tessa Cup is suitable for all women regardless of sexual experience. The small size is specifically designed with first-time users in mind.

Can I use it if I have an IUD?

We recommend consulting your gynaecologist before using any menstrual cup if you have an IUD fitted. This is a general precaution and not specific to the Tessa Cup.

What if I cannot remove it?

Stay calm — it cannot get lost inside you. Relax your muscles, bear down gently as if you are pushing, reach for the stem, pinch the base to break the seal, and ease it out slowly. If you are still struggling, take a warm shower to relax your muscles and try again. If discomfort persists, please consult a doctor.

Can a menstrual cup leak?

A properly inserted menstrual cup should not leak. Most leaks happen when the cup has not fully opened after insertion or when the wrong size is being used. Once the cup forms a gentle seal around the vaginal walls, it collects menstrual flow effectively for up to 12 hours.

Which menstrual cup size is best for beginners?

Most first-time users find the Tessa Small Cup the easiest to start with. It is designed for teenagers, younger users, and anyone new to menstrual cups. However, the ideal size depends on your age, flow, anatomy, and childbirth history. Our size quiz can help you choose the right fit.

Care and Hygiene

How do I clean the cup?

During your cycle, rinse the cup with clean water after each removal and reinsert. At the end of your cycle, sterilise the cup by boiling it in water for five to seven minutes. Let it cool, dry it, and store it in the breathable cotton pouch provided.

Can I use soap to clean it?

You can use a mild, unscented, oil-free soap for cleaning. Avoid harsh chemicals, scented soaps, or antibacterial washes as these can degrade the silicone over time.

What comes in the box?

Each Tessa Cup comes with one menstrual cup in your chosen size, one breathable cotton storage pouch, and detailed usage instructions in both English and Hindi.
